The glass castle is a symbol in The Glass Castle because it was a dream that Jeannette and Rex shared together. As a child it became a dream of Jeanette's to have hope and to achieve the American dream of owning a big house,  a better life for her and her siblings. It also symbolises the hope of a brighter future. It's kind of ironic though that Rex picked glass since glass is unstable and something that can shatter.

Fire (colours red, yellow and orange) is a symbol in The Glass Castle because it represents despair, chaos and destruction. Jeannette has fought many fights and fires but she has managed to overcome homelessness, starvation, abuse, loneliness and terror. She fought fire with a fighting attitude and \just like when she burned herself as a child she pulled through. Also Jeanette used the colours red yellow and orange very often throughout the story which shows how important fire is to her. The ones described with these colours are the ones that conquered the despair, chaors and destruction that fire demonstrates.
This Geode is a symbol in The Glass Castle because it represents the four Walls children. Almost everybody the Walls children come into contact with think they are nothing special and there just useless things but they end up growing up to be successful and capable individuals. Jeanette's geodes are symbolic of the Walls children, who look rough and worn on the outside but hide many astonishing characteristics within themselves.
